He'll be on the bench for the second time in the Orioles' last three matchups with right-handed pitchers, after mustering just three hits in 33 at-bats while striking out at a 31.7 percent clip so far in July. Leody Taveras will get the nod in center field over Cowser in the series opener in Detroit.

Cowser is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Red Sox, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Red Sox sent left-handed starting pitchers to the hill for all three games of the series, and the left-handed-hitting Cowser will end up heading to the bench for each of those contests. Dylan Beavers will get the nod in center field in the nightcap in place of Cowser.
