Goes six innings in return
Mize didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Red Sox, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.

While his final line wasn't great, Mize was efficient in his first start in two months, making it through six innings on just 85 pitches. Overall, the right-hander is 2-6 with a 4.36 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 62:22 K:BB in 17 starts (84.2 innings) this season. Mize will look for a better result in his next outing, currently lined up for next week in San Diego.

Activated, starting Friday
The Tigers activated Mize (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Mize missed two months of action with a strained hamstring but is ready to rejoin the Tigers' rotation with a start Friday against the Red Sox. The right-hander looked good in four rehab starts with Triple-A Toledo, posting a 2.63 ERA and 17:4 K:BB across 13.2 frames. He threw 78 pitches in his final rehab outing, so Mize should be available for close to a full workload Friday. He holds a 4.23 ERA and 58:21 K:BB in 78.2 innings covering 16 starts for Detroit this season.

Throws successful bullpen
Mize (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Tuesday that was deemed successful by manager A.J. Hinch, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Mize's offiicial return has not yet been announced by the Tigers, but it appears that he should be lined up to start Friday versus the Red Sox. The right-hander had a rehab outing Saturday, striking out seven in 4.2 innings, but surrendered three earned runs. If he is able to make his return Friday, it will be his first since June 30.

Mize didn't perform quite as dominantly as he did in his prior three rehab outings, but he racked up 13 swinging strikes in the contest, and most importantly, built up to 78 pitches. Overall, Mize turned in a 2.63 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB in 13.2 innings across his four outings with Toledo, and he now looks ready to return from the 60-day injured list this upcoming weekend when first eligible. The Tigers could reinsert Mize into the rotation as soon as Friday's series opener versus the Red Sox in Detroit.
