Gillespie continues to raise the bar for his performances this season. His 28 points and eight triples set new career highs for Gillespie, now in his third season. He's been in and out of the starting lineup as his team navigates injuries, but he delivered in the starting role against the Lakers. More opportunity could be in Gillespie's future after Devin Booker exited in the first quarter and did not return. If Booker misses any time, Gillespie has shown he's capable of producing at a high clip.

With Grayson Allen back in action, Gillespie slid to the second unit and led the Suns' bench in scoring. While he didn't deliver his best performance from the field, he still connected on at least three three-pointers for a seventh consecutive contest. Even if he isn't starting, the 26-year-old should continue to see ample playing time, especially with Jalen Green (hamstring) sidelined.

The third-year guard set a new season high in scoring while leading the Suns in points as he made his second straight start. Gillespie has scored in double digits in eight straight games, averaging 17.5 points, 4.9 assists, 4.3 boards, 3.4 threes and 1.5 steals over that stretch while shooting 50.5 percent from the floor and 48.2 percent from long range. With Grayson Allen (quadriceps) and Jordan Goodwin (ankle) both banged up and Jalen Green (hamstring) likely not back until at least mid-December, Gillespie will continue to handle a significant role in the Phoenix backcourt.

While this was the first start of the season for Gillespie, he's been a significant part of the rotation in Phoenix this season, as he ranks third in total minutes played. He's been on a heater over the past six games, pumping out top-30 value behind averages of 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 3.2 triples, 1.8 steals and 2.3 turnovers per contest.
