Head coach Ime Udoka said Friday that Thompson will remain in the starting five moving forward, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With Fred VanVleet (ankle) expected to reclaim his role in the starting five on Saturday against the Kings, the Rockets will move Jabari Smith to the second unit, keeping Thompson in the starting lineup. The second-year swingman has started in each of his last 24 appearances due to VanVleet and Smith both missing time, during which he has averaged 16.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks across 37.8 minutes per game.

Leading scorer in Wednesday's win
Thompson closed with a game-high 25 points (12-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt), nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks across 30 minutes during Wednesday's 118-106 victory over the Spurs.

After getting ejected from Tuesday's win over the Bucks in the fourth quarter, Thompson returned with a vengeance Wednesday, posting his best scoring effort since Feb. 3. The second-year wing remains an erratic offensive contributor -- he's scored 20 or more points four times in 12 February games, but he's also scored in single digits five times. On the month, Thompson is averaging 14.9 points, 8.6 boards, 6.3 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.3 steals while shooting 54.7 percent from the floor.

Thompson has been ejected after receiving a Flagrant 2 foul with 4:27 remaining in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game against the Bucks, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.

Thompson's night ended early due to unnecessary and excessive contact to the head of an opposing player. He'll finish the game with nine points (4-8 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal across 34 minutes. Jabari Smith should pick up the slack the rest of the way.

Thompson finished Friday's 121-115 win over Minnesota with 17 points (7-9 FG, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and one steal in 40 minutes.

The second-year wing continues to put up impressive numbers on the glass. Thompson has pulled down at least nine rebounds in four straight games, and over his last 15 contests, he's averaging 16.3 points, 8.9 boards, 6.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor -- a stretch that also includes all three of his triple-doubles on the season.
