Still not fully stretched out
Manaea came away with a no-decision in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Reds, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over four innings. He struck out six.
Análise
Making his first start and second appearance of the season after a lengthy recovery from a spring oblique strain and then elbow trouble in June, Manaea was sharp but got lifted after only 69 pitches (42 strikes), as the Mets prioritize his long-term health and having him available for a playoff push later in the year. The decision to give the 33-year-old lefty the hook cost New York, as the bullpen immediately coughed up a 2-1 lead. Manaea should get stretched out enough to at least work five innings and qualify for a win in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Angels.

Loses in season debut
Manaea (0-1) allowed a run on five hits over 3.1 innings of relief Sunday. He struck out seven and took a loss against the Royals.
Análise
Manaea took over in the sixth inning after Clay Holmes tossed five frames. Manaea showed no signs of rust, racking up 13 whiffs, including 10 with his fastball that averaged 93 mph. He threw 44 of 63 pitches for strikes and didn't face much trouble until allowing a walk-off single to Nick Loftin in the ninth inning. Manaea is expected to move into the rotation after the All-Star break.

Activated for season debut
The Mets reinstated Manaea (elbow/oblique) from the 60-day injured list, and he's expected to work as a bulk reliever Sunday against the Royals.
Análise
The left-hander will make his 2025 MLB debut in the final game of the first half, and he is poised to pitch behind starter Clay Holmes in Kansas City. Manaea threw 73 pitches over 3.2 innings during his final rehab outing with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday and shouldn't face significant workload restrictions, though he could have a suppressed pitch count Sunday as a result of his role. The 33-year-old had a 3.47 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 184:63 K:BB over 181.2 innings for the Mets in 2024 and should work as a traditional starter after the All-Star break.
