Per Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the 19-year-old Griffin's deal is the richest in franchise history and includes a $12 million signing bonus and an additional $10 million in salary escalators. The first teenage position player to debut in the majors since Juan Soto achieved the feat in 2018 with the Nationals, Griffin has gone 3-for-17 (.176 average) with two walks and four strikeouts through his first five games with Pittsburgh. With the long-term deal now finalized, Griffin will be under club control through the 2034 season.

Griffin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Padres.

Griffin ended an 0-for-13 skid at the plate with an infield single in the fifth inning. He later came around to score on a double by Oneil Cruz. Griffin then grounded into a double play in the seventh before singling home a pair of runs in the eighth. Through his first 20 plate appearances, Griffin is slashing .176/.300/.235 with a double, three RBI, two runs scored and a 2:4 BB:K. He still has yet to attempt to steal a base after swiping 65 bags in the minors last season.

After smacking an RBI double Friday in his first at-bat in the majors, Griffin proceeded to go 0-for-8 with two walks and a hit by pitch in his subsequent 11 plate appearances to close out the Pirates' weekend series versus the Orioles. The 19-year-old phenom isn't in any danger of losing the everyday shortstop job, but the Pirates will drop him a couple spots in the order Monday with hope of taking some pressure off of him.

Griffin went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk in Friday's 5-4 win over the Orioles.

Making his much-anticipated major-league debut Friday, Griffin hit seventh in the Pittsburgh lineup and doubled home Ryan O'Hearn in his first big-league plate appearance. In his second trip to the plate, Griffin drew a five-pitch walk. Griffin later struck out and grounded out to close out his day. The shortstop doesn't turn 20 years old until later this month.
