Spoils no-hit bid Wednesday

Soto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Guardians.

Analysis

Gavin Williams took a no-hitter into the ninth inning for Cleveland, but Soto played spoiler on both the no-no and the shutout by driving a one-out fastball 420 feet to straightaway center field. The 26-year-old superstar is up to 26 homers on the season in 113 contests, but he's been struggling to get going since the All-Star break, slashing .177/.301/.339 through 17 games.

Keeps running in return

Soto went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Giants.

Analysis

The 26-year-old superstar sat out Wednesday's game before a team off day Thursday to heal up after fouling a ball off his foot, but Soto looked no worse for wear in his return to the lineup Friday, swiping his 16th bag of the season in the eighth inning as the Mets rallied from a 3-1 deficit. Soto continues to add to a new career high in pilfers, but he's struggled to find his form at the plate coming out of the All-Star break, slashing .140/.275/.302 over his last 12 games.

Back in action Friday

Soto (foot) is starting in right field and batting third Friday against the Giants.

Analysis

Soto was withheld from the lineup Wednesday versus the Padres after fouling a pitch off his foot during Tuesday's contest, but he's good to go for Friday's series opener versus San Francisco. The veteran outfielder has an .870 OPS this season, though he scuffled a bit at the plate in July, going 17-for-81 (.210 average) with five homers, six steals and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate.
