The Nationals placed Irvin on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right shoulder strain.

Irvin suffered the injury during his start Saturday in Atlanta, but the right-hander indicated that an MRI didn't show anything overly concerning, adding that his diagnosis was the "best news we could have heard," per Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com. Manager Blake Butera echoed those sentiments, telling Kyle Williams of TheBanner.com that he envisions a minimum stay on the shelf for the 29-year-old. Irvin spun five scoreless and hitless innings Saturday, earning the win against Atlanta despite feeling something in the back of his shoulder/lat area during the contest. He tried to throw a warmup pitch prior to the sixth and still felt it, and so the Nationals made the call to remove him from the game. The right-hander will undergo imaging to determine the exact nature and full extent of the issue -- one which Irvin told manager Blake Butera he's dealt with in the past.

Irvin took the mound to warm up for the sixth inning but was visited by one of the Nationals' trainers and subsequently removed from the game before the inning started. It's unclear what led to his removal, but the Nationals may provide more details in the near future. Irvin finished the day having allowed just one man to reach base via a walk while striking out seven batters over five shutout innings.

Irvin didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Mets. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out six across four innings.
Análise
Irvin gave up a solo shot to Brett Baty in the top of the fourth inning, but the other two runs he allowed were unearned due to errors from James Wood and Luis Garcia, respectively. Irvin has pitched more than five innings just once all season long, and he hasn't secured a win since doing so in his season debut back on March 29. Irvin owns a 5.59 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP across 46.2 innings through 10 starts this season, and he's scheduled to make his next start over the weekend against Atlanta on the road in what projects as another challenging matchup.
