Takes loss after rough first inning
Cole (8-8) took the loss against the Padres on Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out three.
Análise
Cole started his outing by giving up home runs to the first three batters he faced. This was actually the second time in Cole's career that he allowed three consecutive homers to start a game -- the first came in 2022 against the Twins. The right-hander served up a fourth solo homer in the seventh inning but still tied his longest outing of the campaign. Cole has issued two or fewer walks in each of his past five starts, though he hasn't had his strikeout stuff lately with just 13 punchouts in his past three outings (18.1 innings). He lines up for a matchup with the Mets his next time out.

Snags eighth win
Cole (8-7) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over 5.1 innings to earn the win over the Angels on Tuesday.
Análise
This was Cole's shortest start in nearly two months. He's allowed three runs in back-to-back outings after a stretch of five starts in which he surrendered no more than two runs in each game. Cole is at a 3.29 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 110:22 K:BB through 104 innings over 18 starts this season. With wins in five of his last seven outings, he's in a good position to keep things rolling when he gets a home start versus the Rockies next week.
