Hits first homer in loss
Schmitt went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Orioles.

Schmitt reached base in each of his final three plate appearances, highlighted by a solo blast in the ninth inning. Schmitt has yet to play defense since experiencing back tightness late last week, but after making some progress in his recovery, he's been able to reclaim a regular role at DH. He'll be making his fourth start in five games after doubling four times and adding a single in 12 at-bats over his previous three contests.

Schmitt went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's 6-3 win over the Orioles.

Schmitt doubled in the fourth inning before coming around to score, added another double in the fifth and hit an RBI double in the seventh. He's now recorded multiple hits three times this season, including two three-hit performances. After finishing San Francisco's opening series against the Yankees without a hit, the 27-year-old infielder has gone 10-for-21 with five doubles, three runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base over his last 24 plate appearances.

Schmitt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

After a tight back kept him out of action for four straight games, Schmitt returned to the lineup at designated hitter in Tuesday's 6-0 win and went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Prior to Tuesday, Schmitt had made each of his seven starts this season at first base, but the Giants likely won't have much of a need for him at that position now after Rafael Devers recently received clearance to play the field on a more regular basis. Schmitt could be ticketed for more of a utility infield role moving forward.

Schmitt has been absent from the lineup since being scratched Friday due to back tightness. While the game Tuesday will be his first action since he went 3-for-3 last Thursday, Schmitt will not be fielding at first base as he eases back in.
