Singer (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Guardians, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over four innings.

Singer filled the strike zone by throwing 54 of his 86 pitches for strikes, but Cleveland punished his mistakes all afternoon. All five runs he allowed came via the long ball, as the right-hander surrendered three home runs in a contest during which the Guardians launched six total homers. The home-run issues have become a major concern for Singer, who has now allowed three homers in back-to-back starts and 11 total over his last five outings. The 29-year-old owns a 6.26 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 43:12 K:BB across 46 innings. He will seek to limit the long ball in his next start, which is scheduled to come against the Cardinals at home next weekend.

Singer's right foot was struck by a 106.7 mile-per-hour line drive during his most recent start Tuesday against the Nationals, but he wasn't forced out of the game early and ended up taking a loss after yielding three earned runs on six hits and one walk over 3.2 innings. The right-hander underwent follow-up X-rays following the start that returned negative, and though he's still tending to some bruising to the foot, the issue doesn't look like it will keep him from making his next turn through the rotation. Though his health seemingly isn't a concern, Singer won't make for a dependable fantasy option heading into his 10th start of the season after turning in a 5.79 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB in 42 innings through his first nine outings.

Optimistic about making next start
Singer is hopeful of making his next start despite being hit in the right foot by a comebacker during Tuesday's outing versus the Nationals, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports.

A 106.7-mph comebacker off the bat of Daylen Lile in the second inning caught Singer in the foot. He stayed in the game but allowed five of the next 12 batters to reach base and three of them to score, so he might have been affected by the injury. All three runs came on solo shots -- two in the third inning by James Wood and Luis Garcia and another in the fourth by Daylen Lile that helped chase Singer from the game. The right-hander wasn't the only Reds pitcher to have a rough night as Great American Ball Park lived up to its reputation, as Washington launched six homers in total. Singer's had issues keeping the ball in every stadium of late, as he's been taken deep eight times in his last four starts, stumbling to a 6.38 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB over 18.1 innings during that span. He'll try to turn things around in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Cleveland.
