Mahle (6-4) took the loss Thursday against the Twins, allowing one run on five hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out four.
Analyse
While Byron Buxton's leadoff homer in the first inning proved to be the lone blemish against Mahle, the Rangers failed to provide any support offensively in an eventual 4-0 defeat. Regardless, it was an encouraging showing from Mahle in what will likely be his final outing of the season. In two starts following a three-month absence due to a shoulder strain, the right-hander allowed just one run on nine hits while striking out 11 over 9.2 innings. Across 16 starts (86.2 innings) this year, Mahle posted an impressive 2.18 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 66:29 K:BB.

Fans six in return
Mahle pitched 4.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and took a no-decision in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Marlins. He allowed four hits and one walk.
Analyse
The Texas right-hander returned from a shoulder injury that had kept him out since mid-June. Mahle showed up with his swing-and-miss stuff, as he generated an impressive 12 whiffs out of his 68 total pitches to notch six or more Ks for the third time this season. Overall, the free-agent-to-be has produced a 2.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 62:28 K:BB in 81.2 innings across 15 appearances. Mahle currently projects to make his next start against one of his former clubs, the Twins, at home next week.

Activated ahead of start
The Rangers reinstated Mahle (shoulder) from the injured list ahead of his start against Miami on Friday.
Analyse
A shoulder strain has kept Mahle off a big-league mound since mid-June, though he's made three rehab appearances in the minors this month, coughing up five earned runs with a 10:2 K:BB across 7.1 innings. He threw just 52 pitches during his most recent appearance, so the Rangers may aim to limit his workload Friday against a Marlins offense that's posted a .712 OPS since Sept. 1. Carl Edwards was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
