Makes first relief appearance
Woods Richardson struck out a batter and allowed one hit and one walk over a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in Monday's 6-3 win over the Astros.
Analyse
After Woods Richardson submitted an ugly 7.71 ERA and 1.86 WHIP through nine starts to begin the season, the Twins moved him to the bullpen for the start of their six-game week. In Woods Richardson's place, the Twins tabbed rookie Kendry Rojas as their starter for Monday's game. Though Rojas wasn't built up enough to handle a typical starter's workload and was lifted after tossing four scoreless frames, the Twins opted to use six bullpen arms to cover the final five innings rather than calling upon Woods Richardson to serve as a bulk reliever. Woods Richardson thus appears set to operate in a more flexible bullpen role moving forward, with most of his appearances likely to come in lower-leverage spots.

While Twins manager Derek Shelton hasn't provided word on what exactly Woods Richardson's role will look like moving forward, the right-hander may have lost his spot in the rotation after going 0-6 with a 7.71 ERA and 1.86 WHIP in 42 innings through his first nine starts of the season. Monday would have been Woods Richardson's turn in the rotation, but the Twins will instead give Rojas a look in a starting role. Since Rojas will be pitching on three days' rest and hasn't covered more than 3.1 innings between his nine appearances in the big leagues and minors this season, he'll likely be in line for a limited workload in his start. As such, Woods Richardson could be needed to eat some innings out of the bullpen.

Woods Richardson (0-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Marlins, allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out one.
Analyse
After giving up just three runs over his first two starts of the season, Woods Richardson's results since then have been disastrous. The right-hander has a 9.79 ERA across his last seven outings (30.1 innings), during which he's yielded at least five runs on five occasions while failing to fan more than three in any appearance. Still without a win in 2026, Woods Richardson won't be a recommended fantasy option when he brings a 7.71 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 20:20 K:BB through 42 frames overall into his next scheduled matchup versus Houston.
