Hot start to season continues

Lopez went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's loss to the Mets.

Analyse

The second baseman gave the Marlins an early lead when he touched up David Peterson for a solo shot in the first inning. It was Lopez's second homer in five games after he hit only six in 117 contests last season, and he's come out of the gates flying with a .400 (8-for-20) batting average. Lopez never flashed much pop in the minors, but at 26 years old, he could be maturing into some extra power.

Swipes bag in win

Lopez went 3-for-5 with a walk, one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Pirates.

Analyse

Lopez stole his first base of the season in the third inning and later scored the game-winning run in the 12th frame. While the Marlins' lineup may not generate much excitement, the 26-year-old has tallied five hits with a homer, four RBI, three runs scored and a steal across the season's first three games.

Slugs homer in loss to Pittsburgh

Lopez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and walk in a 4-3 loss to the Pirates on Friday.

Analyse

With his team trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lopez gave the Marlins new life with a two-run shot to narrow the gap. The 26-year-old is not known as a power threat with just seven home runs at the major-league level over 419 at-bats, but he enjoyed a solid .270 batting average in 2024 and plays strong defense, so he should be a fixture in the Miami lineup.
