Ends up starting, exiting early
Arenado was a late addition to the starting nine for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He didn't play an inning in the field and didn't take an at-bat before departing.
Analyse
Arenado's inclusion in the starting nine was merely ceremonial, as the Cardinals had him get introduced to the Busch Stadium crowd for the final time this season before removing him before the first inning got underway. Nolan Gorman stepped in at third base to replace Arenado, who is under contract through 2027 but could be a trade candidate this offseason.

Getting breather Sunday
Arenado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Milwaukee.
Analyse
Arenado made five straight starts after being activated from the injured list Monday and went 5-for-20 (.250 average) with two doubles and six RBI over that stretch. Nolan Gorman will fill in for Arenado at third base Sunday.

Returns from 10-day IL
The Cardinals activated Arenado (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll start at third base and bat sixth in the Cardinals' series opener versus the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Arenado needed nearly seven weeks to recover from a right shoulder strain, but he's been cleared to return to action after going 1-for-13 at the plate in four rehab games with Double-A Springfield. The 34-year-old should be used as the team's primary third baseman down the stretch, which is likely to result in a downturn in playing time for Nolan Gorman.
