Dazzles in pitchers' duel Tuesday
Gore came away with a no-decision in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, allowing two hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five.
Analyse
Matched up against fellow left-handed ace Chris Sale, Gore rose to the occasion, tossing 56 of 92 pitches for strikes before leaving the mound in a 0-0 tie that wasn't decided until the 10th inning. Gore hasn't seemed overly affected by the bout of shoulder inflammation that sidelined him briefly in early September, and through two outings since coming off the IL he's given up two runs in 10.1 innings with a 9:5 K:BB. He'll look for his first win since Aug. 10 in his final start of 2025, a rematch with Atlanta on the road early next week.

Takes loss in return
Gore (5-14) took the loss against the Marlins on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings.
Analyse
Gore was cleared to return from the 15-day injured list Thursday after recovering from left shoulder inflammation. He got off to a rocky start by yielding two runs in the first inning, but the 26-year-old southpaw kept the Marlins off the board over the next four frames and finished with 11 whiffs on 78 pitches (50 strikes). Gore has given up three earned runs or less in each of his last five starts, and while his 177 strikeouts (across 152.1 innings) is 10th best in the National League, his 14 losses is tied with Zac Gallen and Mitch Keller for fourth worst in the NL. Gore is slated to face Atlanta at home next week.

Activated ahead of Thursday's start
The Nationals activated Gore (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Analyse
Gore will rejoin the Nationals' rotation Thursday against the Marlins after missing the last two weeks of action with left shoulder inflammation. The southpaw did not make a rehab start, and it doesn't appear he faced live hitters while on the IL, either, settling for just a couple bullpen sessions. That means Gore could have a relatively abbreviated workload versus the Marlins.
