Roughed up by Rangers
Giolito (0-1) yielded six runs on 10 hits and a walk over 3.2 innings Tuesday, striking out two and taking a loss against Texas.
Analyse
Giolito gave up just one run through three innings before the Rangers piled on five runs in the fourth. It was a big step back after producing a quality start with seven strikeouts in his season debut. Giolito threw 49 of 74 pitches for strikes and forced only six whiffs. He'll carry an 8.38 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to be in Kansas City this weekend.

Encouraging results in season debut
Giolito didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Blue Jays after allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out seven.
Analyse
After missing all of last season due to elbow surgery and the start of 2025 due to a hamstring issue, Giolito registered a quality start in his Red Sox debut Wednesday. The right-hander's fastball touched 96 mph, which is an especially encouraging sign coming off a significant injury. It was equally promising to see Giolito throw 90 pitches, which suggests he's mostly stretched out following a five-start rehab assignment. He'll look to build on this performance in his next outing, currently projected for next week versus a Rangers team that ranked 25th in runs scored (102) ahead of Wednesday's action.

All set for Red Sox debut
The Red Sox activated Giolito (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analyse
Giolito is set to make his Red Sox debut Wednesday in Toronto after missing last season following an internal brace procedure on his right elbow and getting a late start to the 2025 campaign because of a left hamstring strain. The right-hander held a 5.19 ERA and 17:13 K:BB over 17.1 innings across five rehab starts. Giolito threw 85 pitches during his final rehab outing, so he should be able to handle a relatively normal workload versus the Blue Jays.
