Drake is helping plug up Arizona's injury-riddled rotation for the time being, but he might get only one more turn next weekend in Cleveland if Michael Soroka (glute) is ready to return in early August.

Drake took a no-decision in the Diamondbacks' extra-inning win over the Athletics, holding the opposition to one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters across the first five innings. Before receiving his promotion to the big leagues, the 26-year-old southpaw had submitted a 6.92 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 60:31 K:BB with Triple-A Reno across 66.1 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Drake threw 46 of 85 pitches for strikes in his major-league debut. He was able to limit the damage to an RBI single by Alika Williams in the third inning. Drake had managed an unsightly 6.92 ERA with a 60:31 K:BB over 66.1 innings with Triple-A Reno this season, but he showed well enough in his major-league debut to potentially get another look. If that happens, he's tentatively lined up for a tough road matchup versus the Nationals over the weekend.

Drake's start Tuesday will mark his MLB debut, and he'll be welcomed to the big leagues by a Cardinals offense that's posted just a .652 OPS since the beginning of July. The 26-year-old has put up an unsightly 6.92 ERA through 66.1 innings in the minors, but he's allowed just four earned runs in 12.1 frames across his last three minor-league outings. Juan Burgos was optioned to Reno in a corresponding move.
