Fans six in no-decision
Soriano didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Athletics after allowing four runs on six hits and four walks across five innings. He struck out six.
Analyse
Soriano was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball in the first weeks of the regular season and posted a 0.24 ERA in his first six starts. However, regression was inevitable, and it has hit him hard. Since the beginning of May, Soriano owns a 4.93 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across nine starts and 49.1 innings, allowing four or more runs four times. He has a 4.35 ERA in June with a 20:15 K:BB, but he'll aim to bounce back in his next start, which is projected against the Orioles at home.

Set to start Friday
Soriano (chest) will start Friday's contest against the Athletics in Sacramento, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Soriano initially appeared on track to start Thursday's series opener, but the Angels opted to push the right-hander back an extra day to give him more time to heal up from the chest tightness and sore legs he experienced after being struck by a comebacker in his previous appearance last Saturday. Soriano has come back down to earth after a remarkable start to the season, posting a 4.74 ERA and 1.54 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 49.1 innings in his last nine starts, though he tossed five scoreless frames his last time out against the Rays before leaving the game early.

Not starting Thursday
Soriano (chest) will not make his scheduled start Thursday against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Soriano reported that he was dealing with chest tightness and sore legs during his last start Saturday against the Rays, and he now appears to be taking a seat versus the A's as a result. Ryan Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City on Thursday, and he'll make his second start of the season in Sacramento. More information on Soriano's status will likely be provided in the near future.

Battles tight chest, sore leg
Soriano said after Saturday's 8-0 win over the Rays that he experienced chest tightness and sore legs during his start, Jack Janes of TheSportingTribune reports.
Analyse
After turning in a 5.28 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over his previous eight starts, Soriano was much sharper Saturday, striking out five while scattering three hits and two walks over five scoreless frames. He tossed just 76 pitches, however, with the Angels electing to cut his start short on account of the pair of injuries, which stemmed from him getting hit on the right side of the chest by a 98-mph line drive off the bat of Jonathan Aranda in the first inning. Though he was initially able to stay in the game, Soriano noted that his chest became tight between innings, and his legs became more sore as he attempted to put less stress on his chest while pitching. Manager Kurt Suzuki suggested that Soriano's removal was precautionary, so at this stage, the right-hander is expected to be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation Thursday versus the Athletics in Sacramento.
