Back in big leagues
The Astros recalled Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.
Analyse
The left-hander was optioned to Sugar Land on Monday, but he'll quickly rejoin the major-league club since Josh Hader (shoulder) is headed to the injured list. Gordon has started in 13 of his 14 big-league appearances this season but is likely to operate as a reliever since the Astros now have Spencer Arrighetti and Cristian Javier back in the fold.

Seemingly out of rotation
Gordon, who last started Aug. 2, appears to have been moved to a relief role with Jason Alexander being named Sunday's starter against the Yankees.
Analyse
Alexander has pitched more recently than Gordon -- he threw six scoreless frames Monday en route to his second win of the season -- so the fact Alexander is starting Sunday and Gordon isn't scheduled suggests Gordon could be an option out of the bullpen going forward. Gordon has a 7.36 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB in 14.2 innings over his last three starts.
