Patrick didn't factor into the decision after throwing 4.2 scoreless innings on three hits and three walks Tuesday against the Royals. He struck out five.
Analyse
The right-hander was one out away from qualifying for a potential win in the fifth inning, but he was pulled after intentionally walking Bobby Witt to set up southpaw Jared Koenig to face the lefty-hitting Michael Massey. The Brewers have several members of the starting rotation on the injured list for the time being, which should keep Patrick in the rotation perhaps for a few more turns. One day after Elvin Rodriguez made his first big-league start since 2022, Milwaukee will turn to Patrick, who allowed two runs in an inning of relief Saturday versus the Yankees in his major-league debut. Patrick won the Triple-A pitching Triple Crown in 2024, leading both the International League and Pacific Coast League in wins (14), ERA (2.90) and strikeouts (145) over 136.1 innings with Nashville.

Patrick was previously optioned to Nashville on March 9, but he'll wind up being included on the Brewers' Opening Day roster due to Tobias Myers (oblique) beginning the season on the injured list and Jose Quintana needing more time to ramp up before making his Milwaukee debut. The Brewers are carrying just three designated starting pitchers on their roster, and though Patrick will be available out of the bullpen for the opening series in New York, he could end up making a start or serving as a bulk reliever during next week's series versus the Royals.
