Earns win in relief
Patrick (3-2) was credited with the win in Monday's 16-2 victory over the Giants after striking out one batter in a perfect inning of relief.
Analyse
Because starter Shane Drohan worked only four innings rather than five, Patrick ended up picking up the win for the Brewers, despite having already been staked to an 8-2 lead when he entered the game in the top of the fifth. Patrick had made a four-inning start for the Brewers in his previous appearance last Wednesday against the Cardinals, but the right-hander looks like he'll end up remaining part of the bullpen mix for now. Patrick tossed just 15 pitches Monday, so he should still be available to cover multiple innings (if needed) in either of the final two contests of the Brewers' series with the Giants on Wednesday and Thursday. Coleman Crow and Brandon Sproat are tentatively lined up to start those games, but neither pitcher has reached six innings in an appearance since mid-April.

Effective in no-decision
Patrick didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out four.
Analyse
The right-hander got tagged for his first run since May 4 on a fourth-inning triple by rookie Bryan Torres, and that would have been enough to stick Patrick with the loss had the Brewers' offense not spoiled a no-hit bid by Dustin May in the eighth inning and eventually scored twice in the frame. Patrick was lifted after 61 pitches (44 strikes), his biggest workload since that May 4 outing, and it's not yet clear whether he'll remain in the rotation or return to a versatile fireman role in the bullpen. He's been effective no matter how he's been deployed, posting a 2.60 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB through 45 innings over 13 appearances (six starts) with two wins, two saves and two holds.

Patrick is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Cardinals in Milwaukee, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Patrick will be making his sixth start of the season but his first since May 4, with each of his last five appearances having come out of the bullpen. He's thrived in the new role, collecting two holds and two saves while striking out nine and allowing just four baserunners over 9.2 scoreless frames. Though he likely won't be counted on to handle a typical starter's workload Wednesday, Patrick should still be able to provide the Brewers with a decent amount of length to begin the game after having completed four- and three-inning outings since shifting to relief. Patrick's move back to the rotation is unlikely to be a long-term arrangement; Quinn Priester (shoulder) is being targeted for around 80-to-85 pitches in a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville and could be ready to come off the injured list the next time the Brewers are in need of a fifth starter.
