Smart (recently traded) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Cavaliers.

Smart will have to wait to make his Washington debut, and his next chance to feature will come Saturday against Atlanta. The veteran guard averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals across 21.1 minutes per game in 19 regular-season appearances with the Grizzlies.

Traded to Washington
The Grizzlies traded Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Wizards on Thursday in exchange for two second-round picks, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.

Smart has struggled with injuries this season, limiting him to 19 appearances with the Grizzlies. His playing time was way down as well, as Smart averaged 21.1 minutes per contest with 8.7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from beyond the arc. In Washington, Smart could have a lot more opportunity as a leader in that backcourt, but he'll be 31 in March and the Wizards are in the early stages of a rebuild. That means player development could be their focus in the final months of the season.

Smart (finger) recorded zero points (0-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt), two assists and one rebound across 18 minutes in Wednesday's 138-107 victory over Toronto.

Smart made his return to action after missing the Grizzlies' last 21 games while recovering from a right index finger partial extensor hood tear. The rust was obvious, as Smart missed all six of his shot attempts in his limited role off the bench. The Grizzlies have one of the deepest rosters in the league, so it could be difficult for Smart to carve out much more playing time in future contests, even if Desmond Bane (ankle) remains sidelined.
