Shelved after poor start
The Angels placed Mederos on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation.
Análisis
Mederos made his third start of the season in Saturday's 12-1 loss to the Cubs and was the pitcher of record after yielding six earned runs on four hits and two walks across four innings. Following the game, Mederos told Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register that his shoulder felt off toward the end of his start, and the Angels decided to deactivate him while they look to glean more information about the injury. Mederos is expected to undergo an MRI in the coming days before the Angels provide a potential timeline for his return. Caden Dana delivered a 13-strikeout gem in his most recent start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and could be a top candidate to step in for Mederos the next time his turn in the rotation comes up.

Lit up in loss Saturday
Mederos (0-2) allowed six runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings to take the loss versus the Cubs on Saturday.
Análisis
While Mederos didn't give up an excessive number of baserunners, he paid severely for his few mistakes. Kyle Tucker took him deep for a two-run home run in the third inning, and Reese McGuire added a grand slam in the fourth. Mederos has now given up four homers over 13 innings across his last three starts. He's posted a 7.41 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 14:12 K:BB through 17 innings in the majors this season.

Falls behind early in loss
Mederos (0-1) allowed three runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings to take the loss versus the Reds on Monday.
Análisis
Mederos gave up a two-run home run to Gavin Lux in the first inning, and the Angels were never able to overcome that early damage. Over his first two big-league starts, Mederos has allowed six runs on 12 hits and six walks across nine innings. He'll need to cut down on the baserunners to have a chance to be more effective in a starting role. Should he get another start, he is tentatively projected for a home outing versus the Cubs this weekend.
