Remains on bench Wednesday
Allen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Análisis
Allen will hit the bench for the second game in a row after he ended a recent four-game run as Atlanta's starting shortstop on a down note by striking out in all three of his plate appearances in a 4-0 loss to the Marlins last Saturday. Orlando Arcia, meanwhile, went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored in his return to the lineup in Tuesday's 7-5 win and will be in the starting nine again Wednesday. Arcia's longer track record at the big-league level looks like it might be enough to keep him ahead of Allen on the depth chart for now, despite a poor start to the season.

Credits better eyesight for start
Allen is wearing goggles this season to correct an astigmatism which he said was a particular issue for him during night games, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Análisis
The 26-year-old came into the season with a career .209/.254/.283 slash line in the majors, but he's gone a surprising 5-for-18 (.278) to begin his Atlanta tenure. Allen's defense might be enough on its own for him to supplant Orlando Arcia on a permanent basis as the team's starting shortstop, but if he can supply more consistent offense it would make his case that much stronger.

Allen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

He'll retreat to the bench after going 4-for-14 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run while starting at shortstop in each of the past four games. Allen had been expected to fill a utility role for Atlanta, but he appears to be getting a legitimate look as the everyday shortstop while Orlando Arcia has produced a .154/.154/.154 slash line through four games. Arcia is back in the lineup Sunday, but his hold on the starting job appears tenuous at best.

It's the third straight start for Allen, who has three hits and two stolen bases in the first two of those starts. He could be making a push to take the starting job away from Orlando Arcia.
