Starting in RF in Mariners debut
Taveras will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game versus the Athletics.

It will be the Mariners debut for Taveras, who was claimed off waivers from the Rangers on Tuesday and officially added to the roster Wednesday. The switch hitter could receive regular playing time in right field for Seattle while Victor Robles (shoulder) and Luke Raley (oblique) are shelved.

The Mariners claimed Taveras off waivers from the Rangers on Tuesday.
Análisis
Seattle will be responsible for the remainder of the $4.75 million Taveras is owed in 2025, and it will retain control of the outfielder through the 2027 season. Taveras has slashed only .241/.259/.342 for Texas this season and has a career OPS of .661, but the switch-hitting 26-year-old is a viable depth option for a team that has Victor Robles (shoulder) and Luke Raley (oblique) on the injured list and Randy Arozarena (hamstring) banged up. Taveras could see ample playing time in right field for the Mariners.

Taveras was placed on outright waivers by the Rangers on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Taveras has produced a .241 average with one home run, eight RBI, seven runs scored and six stolen bases over 79 at-bats with Texas this season. If he gets claimed off waivers by another team, that team will assume the balance of the outfielder's $4.75 million contract this season. Taveras can continue playing for the Rangers until a claim happens.

It's the third time in the past four games that Taveras finds himself on the bench, with Josh Smith getting a turn in center field this time around. Taveras has yet to find much success at the plate this season with a .241/.259/.342 slash line through 29 games, though he has contributed on the basepaths with six stolen bases.
