Logs two hits in rehab assignment
Encarnacion (hand) went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored in Triple-A Sacramento's 7-5 win over Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Análisis
After fracturing his left hand in mid-March and being placed on the 60-day IL on April 19, Encarnacion drew the starting nod at first base during his first rehab appearance. The 27-year-old could see the bulk of his playing time at first base when he returns to the Giants, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Encarnacion is on track to return as soon as he's eligible May 23, per MLB.com.

Starting rehab assignment Saturday
Encarnacion (hand) is starting his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Análisis
Encarnacion started the season on the injured list after fracturing his left hand in mid-March. He has steadily increased his baseball activities over the past two months and is taking the final step in his recovery program by embarking on a rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, Encarnacion could be activated from the IL when first eligible May 23. He'll start at first base in Saturday's outing, and that could be where he gets most of his playing time when he returns to the majors while Wilmer Flores stays in the DH spot, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Nearing rehab assignment
Encarnacion (hand) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Análisis
Encarnacion underwent surgery in late March to repair a fractured left hand but appears on track for activation from the 60-day injured list when first eligible May 23. The 27-year-old appeared slated to be the Giants' primary designated hitter before getting hurt, and it's possible that's still his role since Wilmer Flores has cooled off after a red-hot first couple weeks. There could also be at-bats available at first base, where LaMonte Wade has struggled.
