Getting breather Thursday

Davis is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cubs.

Análisis

Davis was behind the dish for the last two contests against the Marlins and four of the last five games, so he'll get some rest for Thursday's series opener. Brett Sullivan will catch and bat eighth for the Pirates.

Smacks another homer

Davis went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over Philadelphia.

Análisis

Davis gave the Pirates the lead for good in the seventh inning, when he took Ranger Suarez deep to left-center field for a solo homer. Davis has gone long in back-to-back games for the first time in his career, and he has been hot at the plate of late with a .300 batting average (12-for-40) with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBI over his last 13 games. He'll continue to see a heavy workload as the Pirates' top catcher with Joey Bart (concussion) and Endy Rodriguez (elbow) both on the injured list.

Homers in Friday's win

Davis went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Phillies.

Análisis

The backstop entered the game in the top of the second inning after Endy Rodriguez injured his elbow throwing the ball to second base during warmups, and Davis took advantage of the opportunity by lofting an Alan Rangel slider down the left-field line and just over the wall in the fourth inning. Davis' bat began to wake up in late May, and over his last 10 games he's batting .258 (8-for-31) with two doubles, two homers, four runs and six RBI. With Joey Bart (concussion) still on the shelf and Rodriguez potentially headed back to the IL as well, Davis could be in line for a heavy workload in the short term.
