It was his first encouraging effort since a scoreless season debut, as he entered Sunday having allowed 14 earned runs over his previous three outings. On the year, the southpaw now owns a 5.40 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB across 23.1 innings. If he slides back into the rotation, he'd line up for a favorable home matchup against the Rockies next weekend.

Set for bulk role Sunday
Peterson will pitch in bulk relief behind opener Tobias Myers in Sunday's game against the Cubs, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
Análisis
Myers made 31 starts for the Brewers over the past two seasons but he's maxed out at three innings and 39 pitches over his six relief appearances for the Mets in 2026. While the right-hander might provide more length than a typical opener, Peterson still appears to be in line to handle the larger share of the workload Sunday. Since tossing 5.1 shutout innings in his first start of the season March 28, Peterson has taken losses in each of his last three outings while posting a 8.79 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB across 14.1 innings.

Could still pitch Sunday
Peterson will no longer start Sunday against the Cubs but could still pitch out of the bullpen, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Peterson was originally scheduled to start Sunday, but Tobias Myers will instead get the nod. However, Mastracco implies that Peterson could still work in long relief to keep the Mets' rotation on schedule. Continues to struggle
Peterson (0-3) took the loss against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out seven batters over five innings.

Though his stat line was far from pretty, things could have been much worse for Peterson -- he opened the game by allowing four straight batters to reach base and was down 1-0 with the bases loaded and no outs. The lefty managed to escape the jam by striking out the final three batters he faced in the frame, but he couldn't pull off another magic act in the third, when he served up a three-run homer to Andy Pages. Peterson promisingly fanned a season-high seven batters, but he also issued a season-high four walks and threw only 55 of 89 pitches for strikes. He's now 0-3 on the campaign and holds an unattractive 6.41 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB over 19.2 innings spanning four starts.
