Blows save Tuesday

Green (4-5) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday as the Blue Jays fell 10-9 to the Phillies, coughing up three runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two.

Análisis

Toronto held 6-1 and 8-4 leads earlier in the game, but Green completed the collapse by allowing three straight hits to begin the ninth inning, the last of which was a three-run homer by Kyle Schwarber. Green has served up a three-run blast in back-to-back appearances while blowing consecutive save chances, sending his ERA soaring from 1.61 to 2.72, but those were his first two blown saves of the season. The Jays don't have a clear alternative at closer unless Jordan Romano (elbow) is able to make it back in September, so Green should get a chance to work through his struggles.

Takes loss Sunday

Green (4-4) took the loss Sunday against the Twins allowing three runs on three hits while striking out a batter over an inning.

Análisis

Green entered with a 3-1 lead and blew his first save of the season. He retired the first batter he faced before allowing back-to-back singles and then surrendered a three-run homer to Royce Lewis to give the Twins their first lead of the game and eventually the win. Before Sunday's outing, Green was a perfect 16-for-16 in save opportunities, and he had gone five straight scoreless outings. The 33-year-old is still putting together one of the greatest seasons of his career, posting a 2.17 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 40:11 K:BB in 45.2 innings.

Secures 16th save

Green pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Análisis

Green entered the contest with a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and retired the first two batters before hitting Mickey Gasper with a pitch to put the tying run on first. However, the right-hander was able to get Tyler O'Neill to ground out for the final out of the contest to secure his 16th save of the campaign and eighth this month. Green is still perfect in save opportunities this season and hasn't allowed an earned run since Aug. 12 against the Angels (span of six appearances).
