One poor frame in loss
Mize (5-8) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing seven runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk with one strikeout over five innings.
Análisis
Mize was mostly undone by a five-run fourth inning that included his own error. While he was healthy enough to throw 77 pitches after dealing with an ankle sprain, the 29-year-old generated just one whiff as his velocity was down a tick on each of his offerings. He owns a 3.45 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 96:27 K:BB across 109.2 innings this season and appears in line to face the Yankees at home next weekend.

In line to start Friday
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Wednesday that Mize (ankle) felt good after his bullpen session and will start Friday against the Rays, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Análisis
Mize injured his right ankle during his last start Saturday against the Twins. X-rays came back negative for the 29-year-old right-hander, and with an off-day Thursday, Mize will get an extra day of rest before returning to the mound. In four starts for the Padres since being acquired from the Tigers in early August, Mize has a 7.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 18 innings.

X-rays return clean
Mize had X-rays on his sprained right ankle come back clean Sunday and hopes to make his next start, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Análisis
The right-hander departed Saturday's start against the Twins during the third inning due to the injury, but he appears to have avoided a serious injury. The Padres have a scheduled day off Thursday and could use that break to provide Mize some extra rest by pushing him to the back of the rotation, but for now he tentatively lines up to take the mound next weekend in Tampa Bay.
