Allows runs in non-save situation
Smith allowed one run on one hit over one inning in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Dodgers.
Análisis
Smith entered a non-save situation -- Cleveland was leading 4-0 at the time -- and was touched for a solo home run by Freddie Freeman. It was the first homer allowed by the Guardians' closer, who has now given up runs in three consecutive outings, including a blown save last Saturday.

Blows save opportunity Saturday
Smith (1-0) blew a save chance but earned the win over the Mariners on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out two batters over one inning.
Análisis
Smith entered in the ninth inning, tasked with protecting a one-run lead. He gave up a leadoff double to Cole Young but nearly got out of trouble by fanning the next two batters. However, Julio Rodriguez then notched a two-out, game-tying RBI single to tag Smith with his first blown save of the campaign. The Guardians ultimately pulled the game out in the 10th, so Smith did end up with his first victory. Despite the shaky appearance, Smith is firmly locked in as Cleveland's clear-cut closer.

Cruises to save Thursday
Smith earned a save against Seattle on Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.
Análisis
Smith entered in the ninth frame with Cleveland up two runs. He made quick work of three Mariners hitters, retiring the side in order on 13 pitches. Smith took over Cleveland's closer role last season following Emmanuel Clase's legal troubles and ended up with a career-high 16 saves. He should easily exceed that mark this year as the Guardians' clear-cut closer.
