While Luka Doncic recorded a triple-double in the win, James fell a little short of collecting his first of the season. It's been that kind of week for the future Hall of Famer, as James also fell short of being named a starter for the All-Star Game, the first time that's happened since he was a rookie. The 41-year-old forward is still having a very productive January, averaging 25.8 points, 7.7 boards, 7.6 assists, 1.7 threes and 1.1 steals over 10 games.

While James has often taken a seat for one game of back-to-back sets, the Lakers' skid in the Western Conference standings has demanded an increased presence from the veteran. He played both games of the back-to-back for only the second time this season and showed no immediate signs of wear after a brutal schedule of five games over seven days. James continues to embrace his role as a ball distributor, as his seven-assist effort raised his seasonal average to 6.9 assists per game.

Analyse
The Lakers' efficiency was severely hampered by Luka Doncic's (groin) absence, and James was unable to turn the tide against the surging Trail Blazers. Despite the productive result, it's evident that James' days of single-handedly taking over games in dire situations are mostly behind him, but his attempt to reverse the slide was also hampered by absences from Deandre Ayton (knee) and Jaxson Hayes (hamstring). Austin Reaves' (calf) extended absence hasn't helped matters either.
