France didn't start in either of the final two games of the Padres' weekend series versus the Dodgers while he dealt with a sore wrist, but he was able to come off the bench to make a pinch-hitting appearance in Sunday's 4-2 loss. Though he was hit by a pitch in his lone trip to the plate, France stayed in the game and went on to play the final inning at first base. He'll now rejoin the starting nine for the series opener in Chicago and will look to continue what's been a productive offensive run of late. France hasn't started since being struck on the wrist by a Roki Sasaki fastball Friday. The veteran infielder had X-rays this weekend that returned negative, and manager Craig Stammen has said that France isn't expected to need a stint on the injured list. That notion was supported Sunday when France entered the contest as a replacement for Gavin Sheets. France got beaned again in that plate appearance -- this time on the left elbow -- but didn't appear to be in any pain and ran the bases before finishing the game on defense at first base. France could return to the starting lineup as soon as Monday's series opener in Chicago against the Cubs.

The veteran infielder initially stayed in the game but was then replaced by Miguel Andujar at first base in the ninth inning. The good news for France is that X-rays returned negative, but he's nonetheless beginning on the bench for Saturday's matchup. Manager Craig Stammen said Saturday that France isn't looking at an IL stint, and the infielder will be available off the bench for the evening contest, so it doesn't sound like he is dealing with a serious injury.

This was France's second straight game with a homer, and four of his 10 long balls this year have come over his last seven games.
