Receives injection
Manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Cortes has received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left elbow, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analyse
Cortes' injection will work to help his elbow recover from the strain that forced him to the injured list Sunday, but it will likely prevent him from throwing for a few days. He'll remain without a return timeline until he's cleared to begin a throwing program.

Will seek second opinion on elbow
Cortes, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow strain prior to Sunday's game against the Reds, said he will receive a second opinion on his injury, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.
Analyse
After he was lit up by the Yankees for eight earned runs over two innings in his Brewers debut last weekend, Cortes acknowledged that he was feeling more sore than usual and not recovering well following that start. However, with an MRI earlier this week revealed nothing concerning, Cortes felt well enough to pitch Thursday and delivered a gem in the Brewers' win over the Reds, allowing just three baserunners and striking out six over six scoreless innings. According to Ryan Herrera of MLB.com, Cortes' elbow still felt sore Friday, prompting him to alert the Brewers' medical team Saturday. A collective decision was made for Cortes to skip his next start and go on the IL, but the Brewers are still in the information-gathering stage and aren't yet worried about a long-term absence for the southpaw. For his part, Cortes described his level of concern as "pretty low," but a timeline for his return as well as a treatment plan for his elbow might not be established until he gets checked out by another doctor. Cortes is now the eighth Milwaukee starting pitcher to hit the IL this season, leaving Freddy Peralta as the lone healthy member of the Brewers' planned five-man rotation.

Goes on IL with elbow strain
The Brewers placed Cortes on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a left elbow flexor strain.
Analyse
After serving up five home runs and allowing eight runs in total over two innings against the Yankees in his Brewers debut March 29, Cortes bounced back nicely in his second start Thursday, holding the Reds scoreless while allowing one hit and two walks over six innings in a winning effort. Per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Brewers assistant general manager Matt Kleine said Sunday that Cortes was nursing the elbow issue heading into his start against Cincinnati, and Milwaukee wasn't confident that he would be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation. Kleine expressed optimism that the elbow strain isn't a "long-term issue," however. Cortes is eligible to return from the IL on April 19.

Rebounds with six one-hit innings
Cortes (1-1) picked up the win after throwing six scoreless innings on one hit and two walks Thursday against the Reds. He struck out six.
Analyse
On the heels of being obliterated for eight runs his first start of the season against the Yankees, Cortes bounced back in a big way Thursday and didn't allow a baserunner in four of his six frames. Besides a Jose Trevino double in the third inning, Cincinnati offered very little resistance. Cortes will be working with some momentum in his next time out, but a scheduled matchup in Colorado in the middle of next week renders the left-hander a risky fantasy option.
