31. August 2024

Yields four runs in win

Perez (5-4) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings Friday, striking out four and earning a win over the Rays.

Analyse

It wasn't a very clean outing for Perez but San Diego racked up 13 runs to give him an easy victory. All four runs against him came during the second inning, capped off by a two-run shot from Yandy Diaz. Perez is now 2-0 with a 3.41 ERA over six starts since joining the Padres. For the year, he owns a 4.71 ERA with a 91:42 K:BB through 114.2 innings. Perez is currently in line for a home matchup against the Tigers next week.

Uninspiring showing Sunday

Perez allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out a batter over 3.2 innings. He did not factor into the decision.

Analyse

Perez shut out the Padres through the first three innings before J.D. Martinez took him deep to center for the game's first run. He went on to walk three straight batters with two outs after giving up the home run and couldn't make it out of the inning. That's now back-to-back starts for Perez failing to make it to the fifth inning and he's combined for a 3:4 K:BB in 8.1 innings over that span. Perez's spot in the rotation is still secure for now with Matt Waldron optioned to Triple-A El Paso and Yu Darvish (elbow) being placed back on the 15-day injured list despite being reinstated from the restricted list. Perez owns a 4.60 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 87:39 K:BB in 109.2 innings and lines up to face the Rays in a road start over the weekend.
