Goes yard in third straight game
Wood went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, two additional runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Cardinals.
Analyse
The 23-year-old slugger took southpaw Matthew Liberatore deep in the third inning, giving Wood a homer in three straight games. He's struggled a bit at the plate to begin the season, striking out 18 times in 11 games, but Wood is finding his form and is slashing .191/.309/.511 with three doubles, four home runs, one steal, 10 RBI and 11 runs.

Belts another homer Monday
Wood went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, two walks and an additional run scored in Monday's win over St. Louis.
Analyse
That's now back-to-back games with a homer for the 23-year-old outfielder, who also tallied his first multi-hit effort of the campaign Monday. Wood is starting to emerge from what's been a bit of a sluggish start -- he's hitting just .163 but has three long balls, nine RBI and three doubles over his first 43 at-bats. Wood also hasn't even attempted to steal a base yet after swiping 15 bags a year ago, so fantasy managers are hoping to see him start running soon.

Drives in three against Dodgers
Wood went 1-for-4 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
Analyse
The 23-year-old took Roki Sasaki deep in the fourth inning to help the Nationals build a 6-1 lead that the bullpen squandered late. Wood has struck out 17 times in his first 45 plate appearances this season, but he's hit the ball hard when he has made contact, producing a .125/.222/.350 slash line with three doubles, two homers, six runs and six RBI in nine games.

Dealt with nagging injuries in 2025
Wood admitted this week that he dealt with knee and quadriceps soreness last season, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports. "It was just kind of more of a nagging thing," Wood said. "One series I'd feel great, and the next, not so great. So it was just kind of a series-by-series, or week-by-week thing."
Analyse
While he didn't pin his second-half struggles on the lower-body issues, Wood's performance strongly suggests they had an impact, as he had a .278/.381/.534 slash line in the first half but a .223/.301/.388 line in the second, with his strikeout rate spiking from 27.6 percent to 39.0 percent. That slump has followed him into 2026, and through six games he's batting .111 (3-for-27) with a 3:12 BB:K, although all three hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles and a homer). The 23-year-old insists his legs are healthy, however, and that he just needs to make a couple adjustments at the plate to break out. "This year compared to last year, I feel like I'm in a much better spot," Wood said. If his struggles linger, there could be a buy-low opportunity on the young slugger, who has already demonstrated his impressive upside when he's locked in.
