8. April 2025
No-throw until Monday
Snell (shoulder) will be shut down from throwing until Monday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that the team doesn't plan to give Snell any treatment while he's shut down, instead deciding to see how he responds to several days of rest. A timeline for his return will likely emerge once he's cleared to resume throwing, though a minimum-length stay on the IL is almost certainly off the table.

Hopes for short-term absence
Snell revealed Monday that he had been dealing with left shoulder inflammation for the past three weeks before landing on the injured list Sunday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analyse
Snell thought he could pitch through the issue and that it would eventually subside, but he was unable to get through his last bullpen session, necessitating an IL move. The southpaw hopes to miss only a couple weeks of action, but it would not be a surprise if the Dodgers exercise more caution with their $182 million investment. Los Angeles will expand its rotation to six men this week, and Justin Wrobleski and Landon Knack are expected to be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the two openings Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Shut down with shoulder swelling
The Dodgers placed Snell on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to left shoulder inflammation.
Analyse
According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, Snell completed a bullpen session Sunday and informed the Los Angeles training staff afterward that his shoulder was bothering him. Rather than reassessing Snell in a few days and seeing if the inflammation dissipates, the Dodgers will send him to the IL, making him ineligible to pitch again for the big club until April 18. The Dodgers recalled right-hander Matt Sauer from Triple-A Oklahoma City to provide coverage in the bullpen in the short term, but Snell's absence means that the team will need to break in a new rotation member Tuesday in Washington.

Struggles through four frames
Snell allowed five unearned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two batters over four innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Wednesday.
Analyse
Snell got no favors from his defense Wednesday, as Max Muncy committed a pair of early throwing errors and Andy Pages misplayed a flyball to center field that was courteously ruled a double. The errors prevented Snell from being charged with any earned runs, but he didn't help his own cause by issuing four free passes and uncorking a wild pitch. To his credit, Snell kept the Dodgers from falling into a deeper deficit after Atlanta took a 5-0 lead through two innings, and the southpaw managed to retire seven of the final nine batters he faced. Snell has had poor control early in his Dodgers tenure, as he's now walked eight batters over his first nine innings of the campaign. Walks have been an issue for him at various points in his career, but they've typically come with bunches of strikeouts; however, Snell has just four punchouts in his nine frames so far. That being said, there's no reason for fantasy managers to panic this early in the campaign, especially since Snell was a mess during his first handful of outings last year before turning things around and finishing in dominant form. He is tentatively slated to make his next start against Washington next week.
