Shuts down Reds in opener
Crochet (1-0) picked up the win Thursday against the Reds, allowing no runs on three hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out eight.
Analysis
The All-Star southpaw found himself in midseason form in his season debut, firing six shutout frames and also notably escaping a bases-loaded jam in the sixth frame. Crochet was also able to throw 80 pitches Thursday, and his final start during spring training saw him hurl 89 pitches. He'll be looking to build up to close to a full workload in his next start, which is slated to come in Houston next week.

Crochet allowed six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in Saturday's spring start against Atlanta.
Analysis
Crochet finished the Grapefruit League with an unsightly 7.36 ERA over 14.2 innings. Both the pitcher and Boston manager Alex Cora downplayed the spring results to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. Crochet attributed Saturday's line to missed locations and tinkering with a pitch mix he would normally avoid in a more competitive environment. The left-hander is set to pitch Opening Day on the road against the Reds.
