Blasts off Friday

Perez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies.

Analysis

Perez extended his hitting streak to three games, and during the stretch, he's gone 6-for-12 with four extra-base hits and two RBI. Before the mini hot streak, the outfielder had been struggling, batting just .118 with no extra-base hits in his previous 10 contests. Overall, Perez is slashing .253/.303/.477 with eight home runs across 51 games, and he's settled in as Detroit's primary right fielder since his return from the 60-day injured list in late May.

Runs wild in Tuesday's rout

Perez went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, four runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Analysis

The 25-year-old switch hitter smacked a double in his first at-bat of the night and basically never stopped running. The four runs were a career high for Perez, while the multi-hit performance was his first since July 11, snapping an 11-game swoon in which he'd gone just 5-for-38 (.132) with zero extra-base hits. On the season, Perez is slashing .246/.298/.455 with seven homers, five steals, 22 RBI and 28 runs in 49 contests.

Getting afternoon off

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Analysis

He will get the afternoon off as Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) returns from the 10-day injured list. Perez had started each of the Tigers' previous five games, going 2-for-19 with a walk, a stolen base, a run and an RBI.
