Starting in center again
Perez is starting in center field and batting sixth in Saturday's game against the Royals.
Analysis
Since being activated from the injured list Tuesday after missing his team's first 55 games due to back inflammation, Perez is now starting in center for the fourth straight day. Javier Baez filled in well there, but he can also play infield, which is what he is doing Saturday, with Zach McKinstry out of the lineup. Expect Baez to shift between the outfield and infield, giving Perez a path to regular playing time whenever Baez is situated on the diamond.

Homers in first game back
Perez (back) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Giants.
Analysis
Perez was activated from the 60-day injured list earlier in the day, and he quickly made his mark in his first game of the season. The outfielder missed his team's first 55 games due to back inflammation, but now that he's made his return, he should see semi-regular time in the field, particularly with Parker Meadows (arm) and Matt Vierling (shoulder) still out. Javier Baez has played well in center field, however, and should continue to have a big role as long as he's hitting. It was Perez in center Tuesday with Baez shifting over to third base.

Reinstated, starting Tuesday
Perez (back) was activated from the 60-day injured list and is starting in center field and batting sixth Tuesday against the Giants, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis
The 25-year-old has been on the shelf due to back inflammation for the first two months of the campaign, but he's ready for his season debut after going 4-for-18 with a .730 OPS during a six-game rehab assignment. Perez posted a .242/.300/.383 slash line in 112 games as a rookie last year and should see most of his playing time in center and right field. Matt Vierling (shoulder) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.
