Back with Mets via waiver claim

The Mets claimed Garcia off waivers from the Yankees on Monday.

Analysis

Garcia has now gone from the Mets to the Yankees and now back to the Mets via waivers this month. He threw 4.2 scoreless innings for the Mets earlier in July before coughing up three runs over 2.2 frames in his lone appearance with the Yankees. Garcia is out of minor-league options, so he will be added to the Mets' 26-man active roster.

Departing 40-man

The Yankees are expected to designate Garcia for assignment Saturday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Analysis

After giving up three runs in 2.2 innings during his Yankees debut Friday, Garcia is now slated to lose his spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters. The 31-year-old has spent time with both New York clubs this season and carries a 3.68 ERA through 7.1 frames in the bigs.

Works bulk relief in loss

Garcia worked 2.2 innings in bulk relief, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two, during Friday's 7-3 loss to Atlanta.

Analysis

This was Garcia's first appearance since being claimed off waivers by the Yankees from the Mets on Monday. It was the first time that the 31-year-old has been tagged for a run this year in his third overall appearance. The hope for the Yankees is that this is just a one-off bullpen game with Max Fried still battling a blister, so it remains to be seen what Garcia's role will be moving forward, if there is one for him at the major-league level.
