Not in Sunday's lineup

Kavadas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Analysis

Kavadas started the previous two games but will head to the bench for Sunday's series finale in Houston. Oswald Peraza is starting at first base and batting ninth against Astros righty Hunter Brown.

Idle versus lefty

Kavadas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Analysis

Oswald Peraza will step in at first base for Kavadas, who started in each of the last three games and went 1-for-9 at the dish. Though he's on the bench Wednesday as the Rangers send lefty Jacob Latz to the hill, the left-handed-hitting Kavadas should play regularly against right-handed pitching while top first baseman Nolan Schanuel (wrist) is on the injured list.

Filling in for injured Schanuel

Kavadas will start at first base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Rangers.

Analysis

Kavadas will remain in the lineup for a second straight game and could see the bulk of the starts at first base against right-handed pitching after the Angels placed Nolan Schanuel (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Sunday. Over his 114 career plate appearances in the majors, Kavadas owns an unremarkable .180/.281/.320 slash line and a monstrous 38.6 percent strikeout rate, but the 26-year-old had displayed excellent pop at Triple-A Salt Lake this season (23 home runs in 105 games).
