Stingy as opener

Hall gave up one hit and two walks over three scoreless innings as the opener in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Reds. He struck out three.

Analysis

The southpaw retired the first six batters he faced before running out of gas in the third, but Hall was able to escape a bases loaded, one-out jam and leave the mound after 48 pitches (23 strikes). He's served as the opener in tandem with Quinn Priester for two straight turns through the rotation, with Hall delivering six scoreless innings and a 7:3 K:BB. However, it's unclear whether the duo will be needed again as Brandon Woodruff (ankle) may have made his last rehab start Tuesday.

Opening Wednesday's contest

Hall will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Analysis

Hall pitched three shutout, no-hit innings while opening the game in front of bulk reliever Quinn Priester in last Friday's win over the Phillies, and the Brewers appear set to have the two pitchers work in tandem again Wednesday. If both pitchers enjoy similar success against the Reds, the combination could be one that Milwaukee sticks with going forward.

Works three scoreless frames

Hall took a no-decision as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Friday's 6-2 win over the Phillies, tossing three scoreless, no-hit innings and giving up one walk while striking out four.

Analysis

Since being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday, Hall has made two appearances, giving up one earned run over 5.1 innings. Though he was being built up a starter during his minor-league rehab assignment, Hall looks like he could fill a hybrid role that includes occasional opener assignments as well as more traditional relief appearances. Hall ended up working in tandem Friday with Quinn Priester, who covered the final six innings en route to notching his second win of the season.

Serving as opener

Hall will start Friday's game against the Phillies, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

Hall will serve as an opener, though he could work multiple innings. He was activated from the injured list and made his first big-league appearance of 2025 on Monday, when he worked 2.1 frames while allowing one run. Quinn Priester is projected to cover the bulk of the innings Friday in Philadelphia.
