9 August 2025

Surrenders six runs in loss

Gomber (0-6) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

Analysis

Gomber got into trouble early, allowing a three-run double to Blaze Alexander in the first inning. Alexander added a solo shot in the fourth and Corbin Carroll tacked on a two-run homer in the fifth to account for the rest of the damage on Gomber's line. It continues to be a tough season for the southpaw, who has now lost five of his last six starts, though this was his longest outing of the year. He's at a 6.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB through 49.2 innings over 10 starts. He is projected to make his next start at St. Louis.

Yields two homers in no-decision

Gomber allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out five across five innings during Saturday's game against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.

Analysis

All four of the runs Gomber gave up came courtesy of two homers by Liover Peguero in the first and fourth frames. Gomber managed to limit the other Pittsburgh hitters and avoided a fifth straight loss after the Rockies came alive with six runs in the sixth. The southpaw has struggled since being returning from a left shoulder injury in June, and he sits at a 6.18 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 27:11 K:BB across 43.2 innings this season. Gomber's slated to start against the Diamondbacks on the road next weekend, when he'll aim to earn his first win of 2025.
