As promised, we’ll now provide more key details about the update. Today’s blog focuses on the new XP Level system, and division placement for our existing core competitions.

And that’s not all—tomorrow, we’ll reveal more details about the K League, J League, and MLS card launches. Plus, we’ll share everything you need to know about the new MLS competition including the Prize pools and details on the “Beat the Game” mode, division placement, and more.

Deep Dive Into the New XP Level System

As previously announced, coming February 21st, we’re introducing a fresh, streamlined approach to XP that adds more strategy and clarity to your card progression.

Accumulate XP to Level Up your cards:

Starting Game Week 55, (February 21st – 25th) you’ll earn XP as a reward that fills your XP reserve. This allows you to allocate XP to the cards you want to level up.

Every In-Season Prize Pool will reward 500 XP for lineups ranked between the top 30% and top 50% on the leaderboard. This gives you the opportunity to accumulate XP every Game Week then use it to level up your cards, progress, and have a better chance to unlock top rewards in future Game Weeks.

You’ll also have opportunities to win XP through Special Events and other occasions, giving you even more ways to boost your cards.

There is a maximum cap on the total XP you can accumulate per scarcity. You cannot exceed 30,000 XP per scarcity. To help you manage your XP, you’ll receive a notification when you get close to the cap, reminding you to use your XP.

Please note that your cards will continue to earn XP when used in a competition lineup, based on the following simplified formula: The lineup’s total base score divided by 5.

The base score refers to the player’s score without any bonuses (XP, collection, scarcity, or captain).

An Enhanced, Intuitive Interface

Managing your XP and leveling up your cards will be smoother than ever. In My Cards, you’ll be able to apply your accumulated XP to level up selected cards—only the exact amount needed for the next level will be deducted from your XP reserve.

Here’s a preview:

Cooldown Period:

After a card levels up, a cooldown period will apply before you can level it again. The duration of the cooldown varies by card level—the higher the level, the longer the cooldown period.

Here’s a breakdown of XP Level thresholds, cooldown periods, and bonuses:

Level Up & Transition:

This new flexible system replaces Level Ups, which were too restrictive because they required precise timing – right after a card leveled up and towards advanced levels – for maximum impact. You can still use your Level Ups in your inventory before Tuesday, February 11th, after this date, they will be removed.

When the new system goes live, your cards will retain their current XP bonus levels. XP Level bonuses previously in 0.5% increments will be rounded up to the next full percentage point. For example, a Level 13 card with a 6.5% bonus will become Level 7 with a 7% bonus.

Training teams

Starting Game Week 53 (February 11th–14th), training teams will be phased out. The revamped XP Level system simplifies XP management by centralizing actions and cards’ progression, making training teams unnecessary, and removing the need to submit extra lineups solely for XP purposes.

Other Interface Improvements:

We’re addressing a key community request: Your Game Week Recap will soon highlight which of your cards leveled up at the end of a GW!

Additionally, we’re upgrading the lobby and leaderboard interfaces to give you a clearer view of how all your bonuses—XP Level, collection, new season bonus, and more—impact your lineup’s scores. These enhancements will provide greater visibility into these key strategic elements that set top Managers apart.

Additional Reminders

  • Sport and Scarcity Specific: XP is specific to both the sport and scarcity of each card, just like Essence.
  • Trading Penalty: A 50% penalty on XP will continue to apply when trading cards.

New Division Structure Placement

Our next update is on the key adjustments we are making to the division structure for In-Season and Classic competitions aimed at improving overall gameplay and delivering a more rewarding experience for all Managers.

As a reminder, these changes will take effect starting Game Week 55, February 21st–25th.

As part of this streamlined structure, team slots in Limited and Rare divisions will be redistributed across a new 3-division system.

Here’s how the transition will work for existing core competitions (Premier League, LALIGA, Bundesliga, Champion Europe, Challenger Europe, Contender, and U23):

Limited:

  • Current Division 1 and 2 teams will merge into the new Division 1.
  • Current Division 3 and 4 teams will merge into the new Division 2.
  • Current Division 5 teams will merge into the new Division 3.

Rare:

  • Current Division 1 teams will remain in the new Division 1.
  • Current Division 2 and 3 teams will merge into the new Division 2.
  • Current Division 4 teams will merge into the new Division 3.

But wait! There’s more… Tomorrow we will share how the MLS competition team slots will be allocated across divisions for the new competition. Stay tuned!
