Struggles again Wednesday
Lively (11-9) took the loss against Kansas City on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters over four innings.

Lively got through three scoreless innings before the Royals swarmed him for four runs on four hits -- including a Tommy Pham three-run homer -- in the fourth. The right-handed hurler didn't return for the fifth frame, marking his second straight outing in which he's failed to finish five innings. Over that span he's given up 10 runs across 8.1 frames to push his season ERA up from 3.62 to 4.07.

Lively did not factor into the decision in Friday's 10-8 win against Pittsburgh, allowing six runs on nine hits and one walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

The Cleveland righty pitched fewer than five innings for just the fourth time this season, as he allowed a season-worst nine hits. All six Pittsburgh runs came in the fifth inning, as Lively yielded six hits -- including for three extra bases - on 27 pitches before being relieved by Pedro Avila. The 32-year-old has now pitched to a 3.92 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 105:42 K:BB across 131 innings this season. He is scheduled to make his next outing against the division-rival Royals on the road.
