Gelof was part of an afternoon that featured plenty of squandered opportunities with men on base with the Athletics, who parlayed 16 hits into only four runs. However, the young infielder did cash in on one of the two times he came to bat with runners in scoring position, driving in Seth Brown with his 10th-inning double to extend the Athletics' lead to 4-2 at the time. The multi-hit effort was Gelof's third in the last eight games, one of the better stretches of hitting for him during a season where his slash line still stands at an anemic but moderately improving .206/.270/.371.

Gelof went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Reds.

The 24-year-old had a tough start to the season, but he's found a groove in August. Over his last 20 games, Gelof is slashing .279/.346/.456 with three homers, six steals, seven RBI and 12 runs. That surge has boosted his OPS on the year to only .640 -- a major disappointment after he posted an .841 OPS as a rookie in 2023 -- but Gelof is closing in on a 20-20 campaign with 16 home runs and 19 stolen bases in 109 contests.

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.

Gelof left the yard in the eighth inning via a 424-foot shot to left center that extended the Athletics' lead to 5-1, a run that turned out to be critical after the Reds rallied for three runs over the final two frames. Gelof's round tripper snapped a 12-game power drought for the infielder, whose average (.199) has dipped back under the Mendoza Line despite Tuesday's success. The lack of consistent contact continues to be a major drag on Gelof's overall numbers in his first full major-league season, as he's striking out at a 34.7 percent clip.
