Three swipes in win
McLain went 0-for-3 with two walks, three stolen bases and one run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the Padres.
Analiz
McLain was held hitless for just the second time over his seven games in June, but he still made an impact when he got on base. The trio of steals were his first attempts since he swiped a bag May 18 versus the Phillies. McLain is up to 10 thefts this season, and he's hitting .209 with a .684 OPS, eight home runs, 25 RBI and 28 runs scored through 63 contests. He's looked more comfortable all around since moving to shortstop in place of Elly De La Cruz (hamstring).

Resurgence continues
McLain started at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a double in Monday's 6-2 loss to San Diego.
Analiz
McLain has hit safely in five of six games in June, going 7-for-18 (.389) with two doubles, three home runs and five RBI during the month. This production has come out of nowhere; he was batting .196 at the end of May and was not in the starting lineup for three of four games prior to Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) landing on the injured list. McLain should continue to get regular run at shortstop with De La Cruz sidelined.

Second career multi-homer game
McLain went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Analiz
It was the second career multi-homer effort by McLain, who has now gone deep in back-to-back games. The middle infielder was virtually unstoppable during spring training earlier this year, posting a 1.540 OPS across 59 Cactus League plate appearances, but he's cooled down dramatically since the start of the regular season. McLain is slashing .206/.303/.368 with eight long balls, 10 doubles, 25 RBI and seven stolen bases through 239 trips to the plate, but he could be starting up a power surge.

Goes deep in loss
McLain started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-5 loss to St. Louis.
Analiz
McLain launched his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning, giving Cincinnati a 5-3 lead. He's started at shortstop in four of five games since Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) landed on the injured list. Edwin Arroyo started the other contest. De La Cruz has begun light baseball activity and will undergo an MRI checkup June 12, and he appears headed for a relatively brief IL stint.

Exiting starting lineup
McLain is not in the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis.
Analiz
McLain is just 3-for-34 at the dish over his last 11 contests to drop his season batting line to .198/.296/.322. He'll get a day to regroup while Edwin Arroyo handles shortstop for the Reds in Friday's series opener.

Filling in at shortstop
McLain started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Kansas City.
Analiz
McLain has started all three games at shortstop since Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) landed on the injured list. The Reds have slotted McLain in as the No. 9 hitter in all three games, while outfielder JJ Bleday has moved up to the No. 2 spot in the order in place of De La Cruz.
