On bench against righty
Raley is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.

The left-handed-hitting Raley had started in each of the Mariners' last three games, but for the second time since he was activated from the injured list last Friday, he'll take a seat against a right-handed starting pitcher (Simeon Woods Richardson). Raley still appears likely to see the lion's share of playing time at first base versus righties after the Mariners recently cut Rowdy Tellez, but the hot-hitting Donovan Solano -- who has largely served as a short-side platoon player this season -- has made a strong case of late for earning more opportunities. Solano will get the nod at first base Thursday after slashing .485/.514/.788 with three home runs and 13 RBI over his last 10 games.

Blasts first homer since return
Raley went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and a hit-by-pitch in Monday's victory over the Twins.

Raley played first base and took Bailey Ober deep in the third inning to notch his third homer of the season. He was later lifted from the game in favor of Dylan Moore when Minnesota brought in a lefty, Joey Wentz, to relieve Ober. Raley currently fills the strong side of a platoon and likely will continue to do so thanks to a career .185 average (29-for-157) against southpaws. Through 95 plate appearances this season, the 30-year-old is slashing .247/.379/.403 with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored.

Raley was highly productive in just his second game back after recovering from an oblique strain. The left-handed hitter has excelled at reaching base with a .370 OBP but hasn't shown much power yet in 2025, slugging just .360 with five extra-base hits (three doubles, two home runs) over 75 at-bats -- a far cry from the 41 long balls he launched over 761 ABs in 2023-24.

The Mariners activated Raley (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Raley wound up missing nearly two months of action with an oblique strain but is ready to go after a brief rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma. With Rowdy Tellez being designated for assignment, Raley should see most of his playing time at first base for the Mariners. The left-handed-hitting Raley is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Cubs, as southpaw Matthew Boyd will toe the slab for Chicago.
