Five strong innings in no-decision
Holmes didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Rays, giving up one run on three hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out three.
Analyse
The long ball has become a problem for Holmes, who has served up nine homers in his last seven starts after yielding none in his first seven, but that didn't stop him tossing five strong frames Friday. Although the right-hander has fanned more than five just once in his last nine appearances, he's fired at least six innings on six occasions during this span. Holmes owns a steady 2.87 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 68:25 K:BB across 78.1 innings for the year, and he's set to face a tough test against Atlanta next week.

Quality start in Colorado
Holmes (7-3) allowed one run on nine hits and struck out six without walking a batter over six innings to earn the win Saturday over the Rockies.
Analyse
Holmes put a lot of traffic on the basepaths, but the only run he surrendered was on a Ryan McMahon solo shot in the fourth inning. The long ball has been a bit of an issue lately for Holmes, who has surrendered eight homers over his last six starts, but he also has four quality starts in that span. For the season, he's maintained a 2.95 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 65:23 K:BB through 73.1 innings during his first year as a full-time starter. Holmes is tentatively scheduled to make his next start at home versus the Rays.
