Debuting after All-Star break
Smart (recently traded) isn't expected to make his Wizards debut after the All-Star break, sources tell Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
Analysis
Smart isn't dealing with an injury, but after being acquired from the Grizzlies on Thursday, the Wizards will give the veteran guard some extra time to get integrated with his new team. Smart will miss Monday's game against the Spurs and Wednesday's game against the Pacers, but he will likely be available to make his Wizards debut in a Feb. 21 matchup against the Bucks. The Wizards plan to take a similar approach with another veteran trade-deadline pickup in Khris Middleton and hold him out through the All-Star break, making it unclear at the moment how the two players will fit with the team's young core.

Analysis
Smart has struggled with injuries this season, limiting him to 19 appearances with the Grizzlies. His playing time was way down as well, as Smart averaged 21.1 minutes per contest with 8.7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from beyond the arc. In Washington, Smart could have a lot more opportunity as a leader in that backcourt, but he'll be 31 in March and the Wizards are in the early stages of a rebuild. That means player development could be their focus in the final months of the season.

Analysis
Smart made his return to action after missing the Grizzlies' last 21 games while recovering from a right index finger partial extensor hood tear. The rust was obvious, as Smart missed all six of his shot attempts in his limited role off the bench. The Grizzlies have one of the deepest rosters in the league, so it could be difficult for Smart to carve out much more playing time in future contests, even if Desmond Bane (ankle) remains sidelined.
